Below is a list of most frequent
criminal enticements used to abduct children in order of frequency.
A very important part of child personal
safety is devoted to informing and educating our CHILDREN OF ALL AGES and their parents to
the ever-changing dangers of criminal enticements.
1. The subject will ask directions and
then request the victim to get into the car and show the way.
2. The
subject will pretend to have a disabilty or problem
(can't see sell, can't speak English, has an injury, etc.) and asks the victim for
assistance in finding a location or getting somewhere.
3. The subject will request assistance with
his/her van. He/she will ask the victim to get in the driver's seat and turn the key. The
victim is then grabbed by another person who has been hiding in the van.
4. The subject will request assistance with
his/her car. He/she will ask the victim to fill some empty containers with water, then ask
the victim to accompany him/her to the nearest gas station in case he/she has any more
problems on the way.
5. The subject states that his/her dog or other pet
is lost and asks the victim for help in finding it. After unsuccessfully checking the
area, the subject will invite the victim to accompany him/her to check another area by car
or van.
6. The subject will display a badge and
indicate that a member of the family has been injured and requests the victim to come with
him/her to the hospital.
7. The subject will reprimand the victim
for doing something wrong or for being in an area where the victim shouldn't be and
command the victim to get into the car to be taken straight to the victim's parents.
8. The subject will participate in a sporting activity
with a group of young people and then single out the victim and offer a ride home after
the game.
9. The subject will offer a job (cutting
the lawn, caring for a pet, cleaning up property), to the victim and ask to be accompanied
to the job.
10. The subject will purposely damage the victim's
bicycle and then offer to pay for a new one after the bike and the victim are
taken home.
11. The subject will tell his/her victim that he/she is a coach
and ask if the victim would like to play on his/her team. He/she then offers to go for
refreshments to talk it over.
12. The subject will photograph the victim
with a Polaroid camera, show him/her the photo, and offer the opportunity to pose for
additional pictures at his/her studio.
13. The subject will show the victim a C.B. Radio and ask assistance with a portable unit. He/she will then invite the
victim to go with him/her to another location where the reception is better.
14. The subject has a remote
controlled toy, or as in one case, a motorized skateboard
and shares this with the victim. the subject will then offer the victim additional toys of
this kind if he/she will accompany him/her home.
